TUF Talk: Carla Esparza felt like Tecia Torres just ran away the whole fight

Published Dec. 3, 2014 11:00 p.m. ET

Two time All-American wrestler Carla Esparza is very well known for her tenacious takedowns, but in her latest win she had to put everything she had into putting opponent Tecia Torres on the mat.

Esparza put forth an unbelievable effort to get Torres to the ground on the few occasions she was able to work her takedowns and in the end that was enough to get her a decision victory to move onto the semifinals of The Ultimate Fighter tournament.

The puzzling moment for Esparza came when she heard that the fight was scored as a majority decision, meaning at least one of three judges gave a round to Torres for the fight.  While Esparza commends Torres for stifling many of her setups and takedown attempts, she doesn't believe the No. 3 ranked fighter came anywhere close to winning the fight.

"I don't really feel like it was a close fight because I felt like Tecia her game plan was 'do not get taken down, do not stay down there'. I feel like she was kind of running away the whole time just trying to avoid the takedown," Torres told TUF Talk. "I don't think she hit me once in the first round.

"I didn't feel like she came after me at all. She just did a pretty good job of avoiding me."
