Stoops up for coach of the year honor

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops was named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.

Stoops has led OU to an 11-1 record and a spot in the national semifinals. OU started the season ranked No. 19 and ended up winning the Big 12 championship. OU was 8-5 last season.

Other finalists are Clemson's Dabo Swinney, Houston's Tom Herman, Iowa's Kirk Ferentz, Michigan State's Mark Dantonio, Notre Dame's Brian Kelly, Stanford's David Shaw and Temple's Matt Ruhle.

The winner will be announced Jan. 9 in Arizona.
