The Dominican Republic came into the World Baseball Classic as defending champions after beating Puerto Rico 3-0 in the 2013 championship game.

They fell short in 2017.

It may have been satisfying to watch the United States knock out the Dominican team with a 6-3 win in the second round of the World Baseball Classic, but with several members of the Milwaukee Brewers' organization on the receiving end, wasn’t it a little bittersweet?

Second baseman Jonathan Villar and starting pitcher Wily Peralta put up respectable numbers in their team's WBC run that came up short. Villar stole a base and collected a hit, and Peralta struck out six hitters in just four innings on the mound.

Elsewhere, three members of the Brewers suited up for runner-up Puerto Rico, while Cody Decker (Israel), Hernan Perez (Venezuela), Carlos Torres (Mexico) and Wei-Chung Wang (Chinese Taipei) also made appearances for their respective countries.

Check out the final stats from the WBC below, as well as some notes about these Brewers’ players performance.

NOTABLES:

-- Peralta pitched four innings and gave up his only run of the tournament during the first inning of the Dominican team's 10-3 rout of Colombia. He was flawless the rest of the way, not allowing a hit and walking only one in his final three innings.

-- Lopez threw seven innings, good for third on the Puerto Rico team.

-- Burgos appeared in the championship final against the United States. He came in relief in the seventh inning and gave up a single that brought in a run to make it a 7-0 lead for the Americans.

-- Wang's three strikeouts in just 1 2/3 innings ranked him second on his team for K's.
