What is up with the Midwest and squirrels scrambling around their baseball fields?

During a game earlier this week against the Kansas Jayhawks, Wichita State Shockers utility infielder Tyler Baker made an amazing catch while running the base paths.

Ok, as you scratch your head trying to figure out how that works, let us explain.

After reaching second base, a squirrel ran onto the field in Lawrence, Kan.

Time was called, but the squirrel was not interested in going anywhere.

Thinking quick, Baker removed his helmet and chased down the squirrel, coming up behind the animal and scooping him up in the helmet.

Baker immediately ran off the field, squirrel in tow, to cheers from the crowd.

There is no word if Baker got a new helmet before returning to second base.

Of course, this is only the second most famous baseball squirrel now in the Kansas/Missouri region.

In 2011, a squirrel famously ran across home plate in Game 4 of the NLDS between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies.

Dubbed "Rally Squirrel," the Cardinals would use the critter as the inspiration toward their eventual World Series Championship that season.
