Sooners like scheduling tough nonconference opponents

NORMAN, Okla. - The Sooners play another marquee non-conference game this season, continuing a tradition that Bob Stoops said he and athletics director Joe Castiglione think is important.
Oklahoma is in the second year of a home-and-home with Tennessee and beat the Vols last year. OU will play at Tennessee Saturday. The Sooners have played Florida State, Notre Dame and Notre Dame the past six seasons, going 4-1 in that span. Stoops has previously played Oregon, UCLA and Miami in non-conference games and Oklahoma will play a two-game series against Ohio State starting next year.
"If you're going to be one of the top programs, you play other top programs," Stoops said Monday at his weekly press conference. "It's exciting for the fans and for us."
