Russian-born Kamenev headlines Predators' Day 2 draft haul
The Nashville Predators invoked a two-pronged approach to drafting on Saturday, leaning heavily on left wingers and defensemen for Rounds 2 through 6.
His coach at Magnitogorsk was Mike Keenan, a longtime NHL coach who captured the Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994.
Kamenev, who doesn't turn 18 until August, has garnered praise in scouting circles for his skating ability, top-end speed and strong fundamentals. The Russian winger compares favorably to the Kings' Anze Kopitar, one of the NHL's most complete players and a driving force behind Los Angeles' two Stanley Cups (2012, 2014).
On Friday, Nashville snagged Swiss teenager Kevin Fiala with the No. 11 overall pick (Round 1). The Central Scouting Bureau tabbed the 17-year-old Fiala (11 points in 17 games with Sweden's under-20 league) as the No. 3 international prospect in the 2014 draft class.
