Royals roster moves include granting Ohlendorf's release

The Kansas City Royals have granted pitcher Ross Ohlendorf's request for a release from his minor league contract, one of several roster moves by the club Wednesday morning.
Ohlendorf had been competing for a spot in the Royals' bullpen but was not on track to secure one. His release gives him a chance to catch on with another club. The 33-year-old right-hander had a 6.00 ERA in eight spring appearances with the Royals (nine innings pitched).
The Royals also reassigned catcher Parker Morin and infielders Orlando Calixte and Dusty Coleman to minor league camp and optioned left-handed pitchers Scott Alexander and Brian Flynn to Triple A Omaha.
With these moves, the Royals have 37 players in major league camp, along with left-handed pitchers Jason Vargas and Mike Minor, who are both on the 60-day disabled list. Of the 37 remaining players, nine are non-roster invitees.
