With Salvador Perez back and Drew Butera still available, the Kansas City Royals don't have much need for a third catcher at the moment. So, adios, Tony Cruz.

The Royals announced Wednesday they have recalled infielder Christian Colon from Triple-A Omaha and optioned Cruz to Omaha.

Cruz was brought up from Omaha on May 29 after Perez suffered a quad contusion in a collision with third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert the day before. Perez returned to action June 4 without going on the disabled list.

Cruz appeared in three games with the Royals, going hitless in three at-bats.

Colon, 27, was optioned on May 18 after batting .250 with two doubles and a pair of runs scored in 16 games with Kansas City. He hit .266 with four doubles, a homer and eight runs scored for the Storm Chasers.

Additionally, the Royals announced that outfielder Brett Eibner will begin a rehab assignment with Omaha on Thursday. Eibner was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 1 with a left ankle sprain. Eibner was 6 for 13 with three doubles in four games with Kansas City before injuring his ankle while chasing a ball in the outfield.
