The Minnesota Vikings named Rick Spielman their general manager after the season ended, putting one person in charge of the football operations. Now, Spielman might be losing one of his trusted advisers.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Vikings director of player personnel George Paton was scheduled to interview for the St. Louis Rams' general manager position. Paton, who has spent the past five seasons with the Vikings, also worked with Spielman when the two were in Miami.
The Post-Dispatch reported St. Louis received permission to interview at least nine candidates. Joey Clinkscales, the New York Jets' vice president of college scouting, was also set to interview for the vacant general manager job on Monday. Paton's name was a new addition to the possible hiring candidates.
Paton has been a key member of Spielman's front office staff, along with director of college scouting Scott Studwell and vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski. Spielman, the former vice president of player personnel, was named the team's general manager two days after the season ended.
After a 2-14 season, the Rams fired general manager Billy Devaney and coach Steve Spagnuolo. Jeff Fisher was hired to replace Spagnuolo two weeks ago. St. Louis holds the No. 2 pick in April's draft, one spot ahead of 3-13 Minnesota.
