DETROIT -- Tigers vs. White Sox, Anibal Sanchez vs. Chris Sale

Early news: Justin Verlander won't pick up a ball until Sunday at the earliest.

Views: Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that Verlander was a little more sore than expected after throwing 45 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

Ausmus said it wasn't an injury setback.

"We expected him to be sore the next day but two days later we thought he would have recovered a little more," Ausmus said.

It's now more than three weeks since Verlander left that March 27 game in Dunedin with the right triceps strain.

Ausmus has already said Kyle Lobstein is starting Tuesday against the Yankees.

It's beginning to look like Lobstein might want to settle in for a while.

News: Bruce Rondon (biceps tendinitis) had 15 throws at 60 feet Friday and felt fine. Ausmus said Rondon would probably throw again today.

Views: Throwing 15 throws at 60 feet seems like he's quite a ways from pitching in games, never mind the back-to-back games he will need in order to join the Tigers.

News: Hernan Perez gets his first start today, playing third base in place of Nick Castellanos.

Views: Ausmus said it best: "I'm a nice guy, first start Chris Sale."

Perez is 1-for-6 lifetime with three strikeouts against Sale.

Castellanos is 1-for-10 with seven strikeouts against Sale.

News: Today is Miguel Cabrera's 32nd birthday.

Views: Cabrera is 6-for-30 against Sale with two home runs. Maybe he'll give himself a birthday homer.
