Pavel Datsyuk expects to miss start of Wings' season

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:23 p.m. ET

Pavel Datsyuk may not be on the ice when the Detroit Red Wings begin the regular season.

Datsyuk is recovering from offseason surgery on his right ankle to repair ruptured ankle tendons, and told SVT.se that he could be out for the next four to five months.

"Doctors say four-five months. So we'll see," Datsyuk said. "I hope I just miss a little early in the season. The rehabilitation time after surgery in June was estimated first 4-6 weeks, but has thus proved to be much longer than that."

Under new head coach Jeff Blashill, the Red Wings open training camp in September and travel to Chicago for their first preseason game on Sept. 22.
