Panthers sign defenseman Michael Downing to entry-level contract

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced Tuesday that the Panthers have agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with defenseman Michael Downing.

The 20-year old Downing recorded 20 points (3-17-20), a plus-20 rating and 66 penalty minutes in 35 games for Michigan (NCAA) this season. Downing ranked second among all Wolverines defensemen in goals, assists, points and plus-minus.

In three seasons with Michigan (2013-16), Downing recorded 54 points (11-43-54) and 202 penalty minutes in 105 games. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Canton, Mich., was originally selected by Florida in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
