Panthers go with mix of offense, defense on second day of draft

SUNRISE, Fla. - The Florida Panthers added six players during the second day of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday.

The Panthers selected left wing Adam Mascherin (38th overall), defenseman Linus Nassen (89th overall), center Jonathan Ang (94th overall), defenseman Riley Stillman (114th overall), center/right wing Maxim Mamin (175th overall) and defenseman Benjamin Finkelstein (195th overall).

The 18-year old Mascherin recorded 81 points (35-46-81) in 65 games this season with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League and recorded 12 points (6-6-12) in nine playoff games. The 5-foot-10, 206-pound native of Toronto, Ontario finished the regular season tied for first on Kitchener in points, while ranking first in assists.

The 18-year old Nassen played in 10 games this season with Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League and recorded 21 points (5-16-21) in 45 games with the Lulea Jr. team. Internationally, the 6-foot, 170-pound native of Norrtalje, Sweden played four games and won a silver medal with Team Sweden at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He also recorded three points (0-3-3) in four games for Sweden at the 2015 Five Nations Tournament.

The 18-year old Ang recorded 49 points (21-28-49) in 68 games this season with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL and recorded nine points (3-6-9) in seven playoff games. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Markham, Ontario native led Peterborough in points during the playoffs.

The 18-year old Stillman recorded 21 points (6-15-21) in 62 games this season with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL and played in five playoff games. The 6-foot, 180-pound native of Peterborough, Ontario served as an alternate captain on Oshawa. Stillman's father, forward Cory Stillman played 165 games with the Panthers (2008-11) and recorded 109 points (39-70-109).

The 21-year old Mamin recorded seven points (4-3-7) in 48 games this season with CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound native of Moscow, Russia recorded two points (1-1-2) in 19 playoff games.

The 18-year old Finkelstein recorded 70 points (24-46-70) in 35 games this season for Kimball Union Academy of the United States High School league where he served as captain. He also recorded 24 points (8-16-24) in 11 games for the Boston Jr. Bruins U18 Selects. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound native of South Burlington, Vt., is committed to St. Lawrence University for the 2016-17 season.
