COLORADO-- In his first MLB start, Padres no. 12 prospect Eric Lauer lasted only three innings; giving up six hits and seven runs (six earned). He walked four and struck out three.

The southpaw allowed two runs in the first inning, but had a chance to get out of it unscathed. With the bases loaded and one out, he induced a ground ball to SS Freddy Galvis that should have been an easy double play. However, Jose Pirela short-hopped the throw to first, causing two runs to come around and score.

In the second, Lauer allowed five hits and five runs. The inning was punctuated by a Trevor Story two-out grand slam. For Story, it was his second home run in as many nights.

It was difficult to get a read on Lauer's performance, as he was pitching in sub-40 temps against a very good lineup in his big-league debut. The bright side for the 22-year-old is he got this one out of the way. If all goes according to plan, he will start again in the series opener at San Francisco on April 30.

Tatis Jr. hits two homers for San Antonio

Top prospect Fernando Tatis Jr. has gotten off to a slow start in AA, so Missions manager Phillip Wellman decided to put him in the leadoff spot for tonight's game. Tatis responded nicely.

The 19-year-old belted out two home runs in the Missions' 5-2 loss. The home runs were his second and third on the young campaign.
