Surgery is done for one Ohio State star and on tap for another, according to social media posts made by the patients -- er, players -- on Tuesday.

Quarterback J.T. Barrett had two pins removed from his fractured ankle. He posted a picture on Instagram along with a note that said, "Surgery went well." Barrett had the pins inserted following his Nov. 29 injury during the fourth quarter vs. Michigan.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott will have a second surgery on his wrist Friday. Elliott missed some time before last season with a fractured left wrist, and Bucknuts.com reported that after attempting to let the injury heal on its own, doctors have decided a second surgery is the best path.

Ohio State opens spring practice in late March. Using Elliott much during the spring probably wasn't in the plans after he ran for 696 yards and eight touchdowns in Ohio State's three postseason games en route to winning the national title.

Barrett finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting last season and broke the Big Ten's single-season touchdown record with 44 before the injury. He watched Ohio State's postseason games from the sideline and got around via help from a cart on which he placed one knee and pushed with his healthy leg.

Barrett, Cardale Jones and Braxton Miller all have eligibility for the 2015 season, making for a crowded quarterback room at Ohio State. It's unknown what activity, if any, Barrett and Miller will be cleared for at spring practice. Barrett took over the job when Miller suffered a shoulder injury last August, and Jones made his first three college starts following Barrett's injury.
