NASCAR manufacturer wars nothing new in Daytona Beach

Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota spend tens of millions of dollars annually to compete in NASCAR. Manufacturer money is spent on everything from engineering and technical support to sales and marketing and at-track sponsorship and displays.

Again this year, each of the three automakers will go to extraordinary lengths to be No. 1 both on the track and in the hearts and minds of consumers. They race to win and they win to sell cars and trucks.

It's a successful formula that stretches back to the earliest days of NASCAR.

Just like the rivalries do.
