MLB and San Diego Padres unveil official logo of the 2016 All-Star game
SAN DIEGO -- The 2016 MLB All-Star Game logo was unveiled by Major League Baseball, the San Diego Padres and local officials in a ceremony at Park at the Park on Friday morning.
The Padres and Petco Park are set to host the game next season, which will be played on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
In a release from Major League Baseball and the San Diego Padres, details on the logo read:
"The official logo of Baseball's 87th Midsummer Classic features a classic baseball diamond shape, which also reflects the central location of the Padres franchise and Petco Park in the heart of San Diego's downtown and East Village communities. Through the historic Gaslamp Quarter Archway, which incorporates the architecture of Petco Park, one can see reflections of San Diego's renowned beautiful weather through its clear blue sky and southern California landscape. Padres navy and white are punctuated with battleship grey, reflective of the City's rich naval tradition, along with sunshine yellow and highlights of a graduated sky blue."
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred was in attendance for the ceremony and spoke with reporters after on a few topics apart from the logo unveiling.
Manfred was asked what some of the biggest challenges are for MLB right now, when he pointed out that they are focusing heavily on getting more youth involved in the game and in attendance at the ballparks. Watch his full response below.
