Marcus Jordan's days at the University of Central Florida might be numbered. According to a report, the senior guard and son of NBA legend Michael Jordan is no longer with the UCF program and is not expected to return to the team this fall.
According to sports gossip site TerezOwens.com, Jordan, 21, is not expected to play next season as he, "wishes to pursue a career on his own." According to the report, Jordan could still decide to return to the team this fall, but if he did so, it would be as a walk-on, rather than a scholarship player.
In a statement given to Bright House Sports Network, the UCF athletic department denied the report, telling the station's David Baumann that Jordan is not registered for summer classes, but that "summer is not mandatory, (and) we expect him back in the fall."
Knights coach Donnie Jones had previously told the Orlando Sentinel that Jordan was expected to enroll in summer classes.
Jordan averaged 13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season as the Knights went 22-11 and earned an NIT berth. He has been embroiled in his share of controversy since he arrived at Central Florida in 2009.
In August 2010, Jordan bragged on Twitter about spending more than $50,000 in one day partying in Las Vegas, leading to an investigation by Nevada regulators into whether any underage drinking or gambling took place.
More recently, Jordan caught fire for accidentally propositioning a porn star on Twitter with a public post that was meant to be a direct message.
There is no indication that either incident is related to the TerezOwens.com report regarding Jordan's future with the program, and there has also been speculation that the team, suffering from a reduction in scholarships as a result of an ongoing NCAA investigation, may have asked Jordan to play his senior season as a walk-on, as his family could afford to pay tuition at the public university in Orlando.
