Miami's Phillip Dorsett, Artie Burns ruled out vs. Virginia
MIAMI -- University of Miami junior wide receiver Phillip Dorsett and freshman defensive back Artie Burns were ruled out for Saturday's game against Virginia at Sun Life Stadium, according to the team's injury report released Thursday.
Dorsett, who returned to the depth chart earlier this week second at the wideout position, has missed four games since partially tearing his MCL on Oct. 17 at North Carolina.
Before the injury, Dorsett was second on the team with 13 catches for 272 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged a team-high 20.9 yards per catch.
"It looks doubtful," head coach Al Golden said after Wednesday's practice. "I don't know if that's going to change by game time. We're going to monitor it every day. If he feels good we'll give it a run, but it's not where it needs to be right now.
"It's isolated right now. Until he can become integrated and avoid guys and make guys miss, we're not going to put him out there. As soon as he's ready to do that we'll do it."
Burns, who injured his ankle in Saturday's loss at Duke, has seen his playing time increase of late on both special teams and defense.
In nine games he has 13 tackles, 0.5 for a loss, two pass breakups and two passes defended. Burns averages 26.2 yards per kickoff return for the nation's fourth-best unit.
"Artie was better (Wednesday)," Golden had said. "He has a chance."
Freshman linebacker Alex Figueroa was also ruled out with an upper extremity injury. In nine games (two starts) he has 17 tackles, one for a loss and one sack.
