The Miami Heat have agreed to a contract terms with Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger on Monday. The deal for McRoberts is reportedly four years, $23 million, with Granger reportedly receiving two years and $4.2 million.
The deals cannot be finalized until Thursday, when the NBA's free-agency signing moratorium ends.
McRoberts, a 27-year-old who has spent time on five NBA teams during his seven-year career, averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and a career-best 4.3 assists a game last season for the Charlotte Bobcats. He also played more than 30 minutes a game for the second straight season.
This move could potentially be in a response to Chris Bosh receiving a max contract offer from the Houston Rockets worth $88 million over four years earlier Monday. Meanwhile, several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, have been courting LeBron James, whose agent is expected to soon sit down with Heat president Pat Riley.
"Obviously we did it with the hope that enough of them will be there," McRoberts' agent, Mike Conley Sr., told the Sun Sentinel. "That doesn't mean we did it with the expectation that all would come back."
Granger, who spent the first eight full years of his career with the Pacers, was traded to the 76ers in in the middle of last season but finished his campaign with the Clippers after being bought out by Philadelphia.
Granger, 31, averaged nearly 26 points in 2008-09 but is on the downside of his career. He managed just over 8 points a game last season and missed most of 2012-13 with patellar tendinitis. He will likely come off the bench for the Heat, as he has done the past few seasons.
