Mercury trim roster, waive guard Thomas

The Phoenix Mercury waived guard Brittney Thomas on Thursday. Thomas, a 5-foot-11 guard, was a rookie last season out of Michigan State.

The Mercury's current camp roster now includes 14 players. Phoenix hosts the Japan National Team on Tuesday for its only preseason game, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. at US Airways Center.

The Mercury tip off the regular season on May 20 in Minnesota against the defending-champion Lynx.
