Meet the Braves: Jair Jurrjens

FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a
month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and
project what 2012 might look like.
Jair Jurrjens
Position: P
Height: 6-1; Weight: 200
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Willemstad, Curacao
Experience: Fifth season
2011 in review: Jurrjens was dominant in the first half of the season, going 12-3 with a 1.87 ERA and earning a spot on the NL All-Star team. A right knee injury took its toll in the second half, and Jurrjens went 1-3 the rest of the way to finish 13-6 with 2.96 ERA.
Career highlight: He held the Indians to one hit in 6 2/3 innings to earn his first major league victory on Aug. 21, 2007. Jurrjens finished 3-1 that season and then 13-10 as a rookie with the Braves in 2008.
Outlook: This spring has been a struggle for Jurrjens, who is trying to come back from the knee injury that caused him to miss last September. He had a 0-2 record and a 10.13 ERA in his first four games this spring, but he is confident he’ll be able to turn it around for the regular season.
You should know: Jurrjens, who speaks English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamentu – which is spoken on several Caribbean islands -- is the first pitcher from Curacao to reach the major leagues.
