Marquette extends basketball coach Wojciechowski

It didn't take long for Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski to get a contract extension with the Golden Eagles.

Just over a year and a half after becoming Marquette's head coach, Wojciechowski had his contract extended through the 2021-22 season. Wojciechowski took over for the departed Buzz Williams on April 1, 2014 and signed a six-year contract.

Marquette finished 13-19 in Wojciechowski's first season as head coach. But he had a stellar recruiting class, including Henry Ellenson, who has emerged as one of the best -- if not the best -- freshmen in the country. The Golden Eagles are 10-2 thus far this season and take a nine-game winning streak as they ready to open Big East play Wednesday against Seton Hall (6 p.m., FS1).

"We are thrilled with the direction the program is heading under Steve's leadership," Marquette Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl said in a release.  "This extension not only illustrates our commitment to what Steve and his staff are building at Marquette, but also his commitment to the University."
