LA Sports Awards: USWNT earns 2015 Sportswomen of Year honors

The U.S. Women's National Team, winners of the World Cup last summer, have been named the 2015 Sportswomen of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.

The team will be honored at the 11th Annual LA Sports Awards on Feb. 25 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. The Awards show will then air on FOX Sports West or Prime Ticket at a time and date TBD.

Several members of the team have Southern California ties, including Shannon Boxx (Redondo Beach), Whitney Engen (Rolling Hills Estates), Lauren Holiday (UCLA), Sydney Leroux (UCLA), Alex Morgan (Diamond Bar), Christen Press (Palos Verdes Estates) and Amy Rodriguez (Lake Forest/USC). 

Coach Jill Ellis was also the head coach at UCLA for 12 seasons.
