Kyle Petty Charity Ride gets rolling to support Victory Junction
Nearly 200 motorcyclists were scheduled to depart Saturday for the 21st Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America, to raise funds for Victory Junction -- a camp in Randleman, North Carolina, created by Kyle and wife Pattie Petty to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
Led by Petty, a Sprint Cup Series veteran of 829 starts, the charity ride will cover 2,500 miles in seven days from Santa Cruz, California, to Branson, Missouri.
Fans in local communities along the route are invited out to support the charity ride and meet celebrity participants such as Petty and his legendary father, NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven-time champion Richard Petty, along with former NASCAR drivers Donnie Allison and Harry Gant, current NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, former NFL great Herschel Walker, and Harley-Davidson Inc. CEO and president Matt Levatich.
Attendees can make donations to Victory Junction or purchase memorabilia pertaining to the charity ride.
Since beginning in 2004, Victory Junction's year-round programs not only challenge campers to find resilience by looking beyond their illnesses, but provide a safe place to try new things under unobtrusive, 24-hour medical supervision.
Victory Junction is a member of Paul Newman's renowned SeriousFun Children's Network and is accredited by the guidelines of the American Camping Association.
