TUCSON, Ariz. — Kansas transfer Zach Peters has been cleared to practice at full capacity, adding some needed depth to Arizona's frontcourt.

Peters had been held out because of a history of concussions.

Arizona coach Sean Miller said Peters, a 6-foot-10 center, has participated in a number of workouts, but without contact.

"We're excited about letting him come back," Miller said. "It's been awhile since he's played five-on-five, so you don't go from zero to one hundred."

Miller said it was too early to tell if Peters would play in Arizona's opener on Friday night against Cal Poly, but "hopefully that will progress to where he can help us at some point this season."

Miller said Peters brings a needed skill set to the Wildcats: "He's a very good shooter and a very good passer. And he's physical."

Peters has had numerous concussions over the last couple of years, a couple as recently as 2012. He transferred to Arizona in the spring and was granted eligibility last month.

"One thing we don't want to do is throw too much his way," Miller said. "It would just be unfair. We hope that he has a long career."

Miller also said that freshman forward Aaron Gordon, a preseason All-American candidate, is suffering from a nagging groin strain. He is expected to play on Friday. Miller said Gordon played only about 60 percent of Saturday's private scrimmage against St. Mary's.

"We just need to teach him how to manage it," Miller said.
