'Inside the Panthers: A life in hockey' premieres Nov. 16 on FOX Sports Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.-- On Sunday, Nov. 16, at 11 p.m., FOX Sports Florida, the regional television home of the Panthers, will premiere a brand new episode of "Inside the Panthers" upon conclusion of the Florida vs. Anaheim Ducks game. Titled "A Life in Hockey," this episode features Panthers Head Coach Gerard Gallant, who FOX Sports Florida visited in his hometown of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada to interview after he was hired as the 13th head coach in franchise history.
Hosted by Drew Goldfarb, "Inside the Panthers: A Life in Hockey" begins with a look at Gallant's 11-year career as a player in the National Hockey League. A sixth round draft selection by the Detroit Red Wings, Gallant spent nine of his 11 NHL season in the Motor City. Skilled yet tough, Gallant scored 211 goals in his career, including a four-year stretch with Detroit where he averaged 36 goals per season, while also accumulating over 200 penalty minutes in each of those years.
Also featured in the show are former Panthers coach and fellow Summerside resident Doug MacLean, who hired Gallant for his first NHL coaching job as an assistant with the Columbus Bluejackets, longtime friend and mentor Gerard Smith, assistant coach under Gallant in both junior hockey and the NHL Mike Kelly, former teammate and current Tampa Bay Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman and Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon.
Finally, Panther fans will get an inside look at Gallant's coaching style and demeanor, as he wore a FOX Sports Florida microphone for an early season game at the BB&T Center.
