He's back (again): Cardinals activate Holliday from DL

The St. Louis Cardinals' sick bay lost another resident -- and a very prominent one at that -- on Tuesday. The team announced that it had activated All-Star left fielder Matt Holliday from the 15-day disabled list.

Holliday will be available to play tonight at the series opener in Milwaukee. He was not listed in the Cardinals' starting lineup.

Holliday, 35, had missed the past 41 games since going on the disabled list July 30 with a right quadriceps strain. He was also on the disabled list from June 9-July 16 with a right quadriceps strain, and upon his return he appeared in 11 games before reinjuring himself July 29.

In 63 games this season, Holliday is batting .290 with four home runs and 31 RBIs. He was voted a starter on the National League All-Star team for the first time in his career but did not play due to injury. It was his seventh All-Star selection overall.
