Goldschmidt adds 2nd Silver Slugger Award to crowded trophy room
PHOENIX -- Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt continued his haul of off-season hardware by being chosen for a National League Silver Slugger Award, given to the best hitter in the league at each position in voting of MLB managers and coaches.
Goldschmidt, 28, is the first player in club history to win multiple Silver Slugger Awards after garnering the honor in 2013. He set career highs this season in average (.321), on-base percentage (.435), slugging percentage (.570), OPS (1.005), stolen bases (21) and walks (118), while tying his career bests in runs scored (103) and hits (182).
Goldschmidt ranked among NL leaders in 2015 in OPS (2nd), RBI (2nd), times on base (2nd, 302), average (3rd), on-base percentage (3rd), slugging percentage (3rd), runs scored (3rd), walks (3rd), hits (3rd), total bases (3rd, 323), home runs (5th) and extra-base hits (5th, 73). He was the first player with at least 100 walks, runs scored and RBI with a .320 average or better since Miguel Cabrera in 2011 and first in the NL since Albert Pujols in 2009.
In addition to the Silver Slugger, Goldschmidt was named a finalist for this season's BBWAA NL Most Valuable Player Award, earned his second Rawlings Gold Glove Award at first base, won the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year and Fielding Bible Award at first base and was selected as the club's Most Valuable Player by the Arizona chapter of the BBWAA.
