FOX Sports Wisconsin Midweek Stock Report for Aug. 26
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
In other words, who is making a meteoric rise and who is quickly plummeting.
With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?
Jonathan Lucroy
Milwaukee's 29-year-old catcher has caught fire recently. Since last Wednesday, Lucroy has hit .444 (8 for 18), with a pair of three-hit games during that span. That includes Tuesday night's monster performance, in which Lucroy had three hits -- including two home runs -- in a loss at Cleveland.
Ladarius Gunter
Gunter, an accomplished collegian with the Miami Hurricanes in recent years, certainly hasn't played like the undrafted free agent he was last spring. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound cornerback has impressed so far for the Packers. Through a pair of preseason contests, Gunter has earned a higher Pro Football Focus grade than any other player on Green Bay's roster (+3.3), according to Press-Gazette Media.
Khris Davis
Milwaukee's 27-year-old right-handed slugger leads the National League in home runs in the month of August, with nine. He has a pair of multi-homer games this month, and 16 roundtrippers on the season. Additionally, from Aug. 19-23, Davis went 5 for 15 (.333) at the plate.
Kyle Lohse
Lohse, 36, simply hasn't looked like himself this season. His woes continued on Tuesday night, when he threw 2 1/3 innings, surrendering five earned runs on four hits, including a home run, in the Brewers' 11-6 defeat at the hands of the Indians. Lohse (5-13) now has a 6.27 ERA this season. This campaign is shaping up to be the worst of Lohse's accomplished, 15-year major-league career.
Melvin Gordon
Saddled with a minor ankle injury, Gordon -- who hadn't missed a game in three years while starring at Wisconsin collegiately -- did not play last Saturday night, as his San Diego Chargers fended off Arizona, 22-19, in a preseason dustup. Prior to that, Gordon looked rather pedestrian in San Diego's exhibition opener, logging six carries for 11 yards. This Saturday, however, the former Badgers star is expected to get lots of touches, in an exhibition contest versus Seattle.
Wily Peralta
Tuesday night's rough outing epitomized Peralta's struggles throughout much of the 2015 campaign, during which he has a 4.55 ERA and a .294 opponent batting average. At Cleveland, the 26-year-old surrendered six hits in a start that lasted just 2 2/3 innings for the Brewers. Peralta (4-8) has been hit especially hard with runners on base this season, with a .328 opponent batting average in such situations entering Tuesday -- third worst in the National League.
