Former UFC champ Tito Ortiz teases then recants buying $250K Mayweather/Pacquiao tickets
When MMA made it out of the dark ages, when the sport wasn't even allowed on pay-per-view, it was fighters like Tito Ortiz who helped bring a new wave of fans and he benefited by becoming one of the faces of the UFC as well as one of the highest-paid athletes in the sport.
Ortiz hasn't fought in the UFC in a few years, but his wealth hasn't diminished apparently, because the former light heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Famer claimed he just bought tickets for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao boxing match for over a quarter of a million dollars.
$257,410.50 to be exact.
Ortiz posted a picture of his ticket purchase via Stubhub.com while expressing his excitement about attending the bout taking place next weekend in Las Vegas.
And then he said 'just kidding!'.
It seems Ortiz had no actual intent of buying the tickets but instead just wanted to tease fans that he would actually spend that much money for the boxing match.
As it turns out, Ortiz may have been able to buy tickets without dropping a quarter of a million dollars. According to Forbes, the ultra expensive tickets have plummeted in cost and what was once a $13,000 ticket is now down to the bargain price of just over $6000 instead.
Good thing Ortiz was just kidding or he'd really be kicking himself today.
