VIENNA (AP) Former ski cross world champion Andreas Matt is retiring, six years after winning silver at the Vancouver Olympics.
The 33-year-old Austrian says he ''felt after last season that the fire wasn't burning so heavily anymore. So this is the right time to end my career.''
Matt won the world title in 2009 in Inawashiro, Japan, and added a bronze medal two years later in Deer Valley, Utah. In 13 years on the World Cup, Matt won seven races and earned the overall ski cross title in 2011.
He is a younger brother of former Alpine skier Mario Matt, who won two world titles and the 2014 Olympic gold medal in slalom before retiring last year.
