Florida transfer among 4 soccer additions
University of Florida transfer Savannah Berry is among four new players added to the Northern Arizona soccer program, coach Andre Luciano announced Monday.
Also joining Berry, from Encinitas, Calif., with the Lumberjacks program are Cierra Gamble of Corona, Calif., Maya Huffman of Flagstaff and Syrina Lopez of Las Vegas.
“We’re excited about the addition of these four players,” Luciano said. “I feel that they’ll give us a different type of athleticism to our roster primarily as defensive players.”
Berry, Huffman and Lopez will provide depth in the defensive backline that returns two starters in junior Alana D’Onofrio and sophomore Diane Buzzard as well as senior Georgia Foltz, who suffered a season-ending injury in the second game of the season in 2011.
Gamble is slated to play in the midfield, where the Lumberjacks will have to replace four-time All-Big Sky honoree Sam Monahan.
The four new players means that a total of 14 incoming players will join the 16 returnees on the team in the fall. The Lumberjacks must replace 12 graduating seniors from the 2011 team.
