DraftKings MLB Picks For October 7
We have a full day of four playoff games today, starting at noon eastern. Be sure to get your lineups in before then! We have a little more than the usual slim pickings on DraftKings with eight different pitchers to choose from. Half of them are over $10,000, so where can we go cheap? Let’s check out the past stats for some help!
NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Best Bets:
Clayton Kershaw ($12,000): There is elite, then there is Kershaw. He is in a class all his own. No one comes close, except for the road playoff version of Madison Bumgarner. The Nationals are hitting .217 against Kershaw in 180 at bats, which is pretty good off of an ace. The good news ends there. Washington only has three homers, just six runs, and a shocking 56 strikeouts. Expect the best pitcher in baseball to throw like it again.
Yu Darvish ($10,200): The Blue Jays are hitting only .184 against Darvish in 98 at bats with two homers, but they have scored ten runs. That leaves him with a little above average numbers until you look at the strikeouts. Darvish has struck out 37 in those 98 at bats, leaving him with a high floor. Unless, of course, the Jays tee off on Darvish the way they did Cole Hamels yesterday.
David Price ($8,000): Cleveland is hitting a respectable .235 against Price in 255 at bats, but they have just three homers and only 15 runs. Price also owns an astronomical 83 strikeouts. I have no idea why Price is this cheap, but he enables you to stock up on hitters at this low of a price.
Honorable Mention:
Johnny Cueto ($9,900): The Cubs are hitting just .184 against Cueto in 141 at bats with only two homers and ten runs. They have struck out 37 times, which isn’t a large total, but it is good enough when you consider his other numbers. Anthony Rizzo has one of those homers, a solo shot, but he is just 3-19 against Cueto. The usual suspects aren’t the ones teeing off on Cueto.
Jon Lester ($10,600): The Giants are only hitting .220 against Lester in 100 at bats with two homers and nine RBI. The problem is that he has only struck out 13 of those 100 batters. That puts Lester in the lower tier of the day, but keep in mind that Lester had been dominant before his little hiccup against the Reds on Saturday. He could certainly put together an outing like he had against the Giants on September 2nd. Lester gave up only one run on three hits and two walks in a complete game while striking out four.

Brandon Guyer ($3,500) is 4-14 with a cycle and three RBI against Price. Jason Kipnis ($3,600) is 8-26(.308) with two doubles against Price, but he has no counting stats. Mike Napoli ($3,300) only has eight hits in 36 at bats(.222), but he has two walks, two doubles, and a solo homer. Carlos Santana ($4,100) has picked up 10 hits in 31 at bats(.323) with six walks, four doubles, and two driven in against Price.
Good luck out there, and check out our picks for the NFL!
