Daytona 500 champ Denny Hamlin says he still hasn't caught up on sleep
When Denny Hamlin arrived at the Daytona 500 Champion's Breakfast on Monday morning some 15 hours after winning NASCAR's biggest race, he told reporters he hadn't slept since taking the checkered flag.
Apparently, Hamlin hasn't slept much since then, either.
At Atlanta Motor Speedway for Sunday's second Sprint Cup race of 2016, Hamlin said on Friday that shut-eye has been few and far between this week as he's criss-crossed the country on a whirlwind media tour that included a visit to New York City for appearances on "FOX & Friends" and "LIVE with Kelly and Michael."
"I didn't get a whole lot of sleep. I got a few hours here and there," Hamlin said on Friday. "I mean, gosh, maybe 24 hours total for the whole week if I had to guess, but it was fun traveling a bunch of states all over the place. I had some personal business in Texas that I had to attend to on Wednesday as well, so that just added to the travel. ... It was really cool."
So what were the most and least enjoyable parts of the Joe Gibbs Racing driver's busy week?
"I don't know," Hamlin said. "The coolest part probably wouldn't be what you think -- I'm a huge fan of 'Highly Questionable', Dan Le Batard's show. I liked going on that. That was my favorite part, and the worst is just the mornings -- the 5 a.m. stuff. For some people, 5 a.m. is a normal day. For myself, not so much, so that was a struggle."
