D-backs minor-league report: Bradley dazzles, Collmenter pitches 2 scoreless
Josh Collmenter pitched two scoreless innings on Sunday in his second rehab appearance for the Reno Aces. He gave up three hits and one walk and struck out one in a game in Reno's 3-0 loss to Omaha.
Collmenter has been on the disabled list since spring training with shoulder tightness. In five rehab appearances with Reno and Visalia, he worked 14 innings and gave up 20 hits, 13 runs (10 earned) and eight walks. He struck out nine.
Collmenter has been on rehab assignment for 20 days -- the limit for position players -- but because he's a pitcher, the team has 10 more days before it must decide whether to activate him on the 25-man roster or assign him to the minor leagues.
--In other news from Triple-A Reno, Archie Bradley made his most impressive start of the season on Saturday, giving up three hits over eight scoreless innings in a 3-1 win over Omaha. Bradley walked three and struck out nine while improving his record to 5-1 with a 1.99 ERA. He's tied for the Pacific Coast League in wins and third in ERA.
Bradley has given up two runs or fewer in five of his six starts for Reno. For the season, he's given up 26 hits in 40/23 innings, with 18 walks and a league-leading 47 strikeouts. He's also made two spots start of the D-backs.
"I would say that's where I matured," Bradley told milb.com. "As a player, as a person, I understand it's a business. I've been blessed to go up twice so far. That's the goal and, hopefully, I'll get up there and stay. But for now, I'll do all I can in Reno. We have a great group of guys, a great team, great coaches. I love playing here. Obviously, I'm trying to get to the majors and stay there, but I'm enjoying being a part of this Aces team right now."
Silvino Bracho gave up Omaha's only run in the ninth inning while picking up his eighth save in nine opportunities, but his ERA remains high at 4.76.
--Reno outfielder Todd Glaesmann has an eight-game hitting streak and is batting .341 in 12 games since being promoted from Double-A Mobile. Peter O'Brien's 12 home runs are second in the league to Sacramento's Jared Parker (13), but O'Brien's plate discipline remains an issue. He has three walks and 49 strikeouts in 39 games.
--Relief pitchers Jimmie Sherfy and Daniel Gibson have been impressive for Double-A Mobile.
Sherfy, a 10th-round pick out of Oregon in 2013, began the year at High-A Visalia and has three saves in five appearance since being promoted, with a 1.50 ERA and 12 strikeouts over six innings. In 17 appearance overall, he's pitched 18 1/3 innings and given up 10 hits, one run and eight walks while striking out 33. He has 11 total saves and a cumulative ERA of 0.49.
Gibson, a left-hander who was a seventh-round pick out of Florida in 2013, has yet to give up an earned run in 17 appearances for the Bay Bears, spanning 15 2/3 innings. He's given up 14 hits, walked six and struck out 11.
--Mobile second baseman Jamie Westbrook, a fifth-round pick out of Basha High School in 2013, is the hottest hitter in the organzation. He went into Monday's play with an 8-game hitting streak, going 17 for 31 (.548) over that stretch. In the process, he's raised his average from .229 to .301.
--Starting pitcher Zac Godley is starting to come around after a rough start to his season in Mobile. Godley have up two hits and one earned run in 7 2/3 innings on Friday in a 9-4 victory over Mississippi. In his last two starts, Godley (2-5) has given up six hits, three walks and three earned runs over 14 2/3 innings, dropping his ERA to 3.83.
