Coyotes acquire Samuelsson for Klinkhammer, waive Chipchura

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Coyotes on Friday made a number of roster moves, which included acquiring defenseman Philip Samuelsson from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Rob Klinkhammer.

The Penguins also receive a conditional fifth-round draft pick in the 2016 NHL draft. If Samuelsson plays at least 40 games with the Coyotes this season they will give up the pick to Pittsburgh.

Additionally, forward Kyle Chipchura was waived, defenseman David Schlemko was assigned to Portland of AHL and defenseman Andrew Campbell and forward Jordan Martinook were recalled from Portland.

The 23-year-old Samuelsson registered 0-4-4 and 20 penalty minutes (PIM) in 22 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) this season. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound native of Leksand, Sweden, appeared in five NHL games with the Penguins. Samuelsson originally was drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (61st overall) in 2009.

The 26-year-old Campbell registered 3-5-8 and a plus-seven rating in 20 games with the Portland Pirates this season. The 6-foot-4, 206-pound native of Caledonia, Ontario, leads Portland in plus-minus.

The 22-year-old Martinook collected 4-9-13 and eight PIM in 21 games with the Pirates. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound native of Leduc, Alberta, ranks third on Portland in scoring.

The 27-year-old Schlemko totaled 1-3-4 and four PIM in 15 games with the Coyotes this season.

In 19 games with the Coyotes this season, Klinkhammer collected 3-0-3 and four PIM.
