Chuck Knoblauch elected to Twins Hall of Fame

MINNEAPOLIS -- Second baseman Chuck Knoblauch was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1991, helping the Minnesota Twins win their second World Series title. Now Knoblauch can add one more accolade to his career: Twins Hall of Famer.

The team announced Friday that Knoblauch was the lone member of the 2014 Twins Hall of Fame class and the 27th overall member to join the club. He will be honored in a ceremony at Target Field on Aug. 23.

"I'm happy to report Chuck was not only surprised, he was very happy and most importantly incredibly honored," said Twins president Dave St. Peter. "He looks forward to coming to Minnesota to accept this honor."

Knoblauch was a first-round pick by the Twins in the 1989 draft and made his major league debut in 1991. In 151 games that year, he batted .281 with 50 RBI, 24 doubles and 25 stolen bases en route to earning Rookie of the Year honors.

"I am humbled and honored with the news of my election to the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame," Knoblauch said. "The time I spent in Minnesota will always hold a special place in my heart and my family and I are excited about returning to the Twin Cities for the induction ceremony."

Seven of Knoblauch's 12 major league seasons came with the Twins. During his time in Minnesota he batted a combined .304 with 391 RBI and 276 stolen bases. He was a four-time All-Star with the Twins and won both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in 1997, his final year in Minnesota.

After leaving the Twins, Knoblauch spent four years with the New York Yankees and played his final season with the Kansas City Royals in 2002.
