Cardinals call up Jack Flaherty for Friday's start against Giants
ST. LOUIS -- The wait is over, Cardinals fans.
With Wednesday's trade of starter Mike Leake to the Seattle Mariners, the Cardinals have decided to fill his spot in the rotation with highly touted prospect Jack Flaherty. The team announced Flaherty's call-up to the big leagues from Triple-A Memphis via Twitter on Wednesday.

Flaherty has been stellar in the minor leagues this season. The 21-year-old right-hander has a combined 14-4 record and a 2.18 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A for the year. Flaherty went 7-2 with a 2.74 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 85 1/3 innings with the Redbirds.
The Cardinals will hope Flaherty can build on the success other Memphis call-ups have had in the majors this season. Tommy Pham, Paul DeJong, Luke Voit and Luke Weaver all started this season in Triple-A but have become valuable contributors to the Cardinals' playoff hopes.
Flaherty rounds out a rotation consisting of Carlos Martinez, Lance Lynn, Michael Wacha and Luke Weaver. Adam Wainwright is on the 10-day DL but expects to return before the end of the season.
The Giants have yet to announce their starter for Friday's game.
