Nate Reinking has been named the fourth Head Coach in Canton Charge history, General Manager Mike Gansey announced today. Reinking was promoted from within after serving as an assistant coach in Canton the last three seasons.

"Nate rose to the top of the list based on the phenomenal job he’s done for us the last three years,” said Gansey. “He truly earned this promotion to Head Coach through all of his tireless work and attention to detail in the little things that have helped make us great. His national team playing and coaching experience as well as roots in our area are terrific added bonuses."

Reinking, 42, joined the Charge as an assistant under Head Coach Steve Hetzel for the 2013-14 season with a focus on player development and opposition scouting. After Hetzel’s NBA Call-Up, he was retained under new Head Coach Jordi Fernandez as an assistant the next two seasons while adding game-planning and game personnel to his responsibilities. With defensive principles the focus in his three years on the Charge staff, Canton’s scoring defense ranked 1st in 2013-14 (101.4ppg), 1st in 2014-15 (95.8ppg), and 5th last season (103.3ppg).

"I am thankful to Mike Gansey and the Cavaliers organization for giving me this opportunity to be the Head Coach of the Charge,” said Reinking. “I wouldn’t be here today without them as well as all the great experiences I’ve had with Steve (Hetzel), Jordi (Fernandez) and the rest of our Canton staff over the last three seasons. I’m looking forward to assembling our staff and pushing young talent to be the very best, continuing the standard of success that has been set here."

Reinking came to the Charge with over 20 years of collegiate, professional and international experience as both a player and coach. He is an assistant coach with the Great Britain National Team, as he prepares scouting reports and implements game plans through on-court instruction and video breakdown. Reinking also played for Great Britain from 2005-12, representing the nation in international tournaments such as the Olympics and European Championships. The Great Britain National Team also recently just qualified for the 2017 EuroBasket Championship.

A native of Galion, OH, Reinking graduated from Kent State University in 1996 after a four-year playing career with the Golden Flashes. He currently ranks in the program’s career top ten in scoring (1.456, 8th), games started (100, 8th), field goals made (491, 9th), free-throw percentage (.792, 9th), and three-point field goals made (184, 6th). As a captain his senior season, Reinking was Second Team All-MAC after playing in all 27 games and averaging 18.7 points on .445 shooting with 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.
