Brewers sign veteran right-handed reliever Carlos Torres
The Milwaukee Brewers have signed right-handed reliver Carlos Torres to a one-year major-league contract, the team announced Saturday.
Torres, 33, opted out of his deal with the Atlanta Braves this past week after failing to make their opening-day roster. The six-year MLB veteran made eight relief appearances with the Braves this spring, allowing four earned runs, seven hits and five walks in nine innings.
Torres went 5-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 59 relief appearances last season with the New York Mets. He owns a career record of 23-24 with a 4.26 ERA and two saves in 209 games (16 starts) with the White Sox (2009-10), Rockies (2012) and Mets (2013-15). He played for the Yomiuri Giants of the Nippon Professional Baseball League in 2011.
In 2014, Torres led all major-league relievers with 92 innings pitches, going 8-6 with a 3.06 ERA in 73 relief appearances with the Mets.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Brewers transfered outfielder Rymer Liriano (facial fractures) to the 60-day disabled list.
