Brewers pitcher Jungmann sticking to routine after strong rookie season
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Taylor Jungmann may have gone from minor-leaguer to MLB regular last season, but he isn't letting his success in the big leagues change his offseason plans.
"It's really the same thing it is every year," he said. "It's just being consistent and trying to be consistent within my mechanics, and staying within myself."
A first-round pick in 2011, Jungmann joined the Brewers in June last season after spending time in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, and showed plenty of promise.
Jungmann started 21 times, posting a 3.77 ERA and a 9-8 record for a team that finished the season with a combined 4.11 ERA, good enough for 28th in the league.
But while his strong start eventually began to fade after the All-Star Game, Jungmann remains committed to the process that made him an MLB starter in the first place.
"I don't think it changed my mindset," Jungmann said. "I think I'm going to do the same thing that I did last year, just compete and stay within myself."
However, Jungmann says that last year's successes are having an impact on his offseason, even if it isn't changing his workout.
"I think the confidence carries over for sure," he said. "I don't necessarily think that I will change anything from last year, I try to do the same thing every year as far as preparing goes."
Manager Craig Counsell announced that Jungmann will start in the Brewers' exhibition game on Wednesday against UW-Milwaukee.
