Brewers acquire RHP Marinez, designate Kirkman for assignment

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-handed pitcher Jhan Marinez from the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday for cash, while designating lefty Michael Kirkman for assignment.

Originally signed by the Florida Marlins as an undrafted free agent in 2006, Marinez has a 2.45 ERA through three appearances and 3 2/3 innings pitched for the Rays in 2016.

Kirkman, who was claimed on waivers from the Padres last week, pitched just one inning for the Brewers, allowing one hit and one run.
