Blues trade Brian Elliott to Flames for second-round pick

The St. Louis Blues made major headlines at the NHL Draft on Friday evening, dealing goaltender Brian Elliott to the Calgary Flames in exchange for the 35th overall pick in this year's draft. The Blues will also receive a third-round pick in 2018 if Elliott re-signs with Calgary or is traded.

The Blues' starting job now goes to Jake Allen, who shared the job with Elliott last season.

The 31-year-old Elliott has spent the past five seasons with the Blues, posting a 104-46-16 record along with a 2.01 goals against average, a .925 save percentage and a franchise-best 25 shutouts in 181 regular season games. The Newmarket, Ontario, native also appeared in 33 postseason games with the Blues, accumulating a 14-17 record, a 2.32 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Overall, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound goaltender has dressed in 323 career NHL regular season games, posting a 165-99-32 record, a 2.40 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and 34 shutouts. 

Elliott was originally drafted by Ottawa in the ninth round (291st overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
