Big 12 Conference: WVU's Karl Joseph should have been penalized

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:15 p.m. ET

The Big 12 Conference offense informed Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops that West Virginia's Karl Joseph should have been penalized for targeting after a hit on OU's Dede Westbrook.

The hit came in the first quarter of Oklahoma's 44-24 victory over West Virginia last Saturday in Norman, Okla. Westbrook ended up dropping the ball. Joseph was not flagged and there was no other penalty on the play.

If Joseph had been penalized, he would have been ejected from the game. Westbrook wound up with 107 yards receiving on five catches. Joseph, considered one of the best defensive backs in the nation, will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he suffered in practice last week.
