Badgers hockey doubles up Penn State
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The fifth-ranked Wisconsin men's hockey squad doubled up host Penn State on Friday night, winning by a 4-2 margin.
Wisconsin (20-9-2, 11-5-1 Big Ten) dominated the first 35 minutes of the contest before surviving a Penn State (6-23-2, 2-14-1 Big Ten) onslaught over the final 25 minutes to win.
Wisconsin got first-period goals from Michael Mersch and Tyler Barnes before Badgers star Nic Kerdiles handed his club a decisive, 3-0 margin with a goal at 11:11 of the second period.
Penn State closed to within 3-2 late, but Wisconsin standout Mark Zengerle tallied a goal with just seconds remaining, officially putting the game on ice.
Wisconsin won in large part due to netminder Joel Rumpel's 24 saves.
Penn State was led by goalie P.J. Musico's 30 saves.
