At least we know why Marshawn Lynch went to Media Day
PHOENIX -- Say what?
As has become his norm, Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch demonstrated again at Super Bowl Media Day on Tuesday that the only ground he deigns to cover is between the white lines.
In a four-minute, 51-second interview session, Lynch showed the same attention to repetitive detail that he perfected late the regular season.
"I'm just here so I won't get fined," Lynch said.
Or words to that effect.
Twenty-nine times, as reported by the Pro Football Writers Association of America.
Teammates said that is just Marshawn being Marshawn.
"That's him being him," safety Kam Chancellor said. "That's who God created. He's the same guy every day."
Lynch was fined $100,000 for failing to answer questions after a 20-17 loss to Kansas City on Nov. 16, the last time the Seahawks' lost.
Spurred to action, he answered "yeah" 12 times after a 19-3 victory over the Arizona Cardinals a week later.
After his re-Beast Mode game in a 35-6 victory over the Cardinals Dec. 21 that put the Seahawks in the driver's seat for the NFC West title and home field advantage through the playoffs, he broke out another saying.
"Thanks for asking," he said.
The great thing about Lynch's media sessions is, you do not miss much if you are not there at the start.
He was given a corner interview cubicle at the US Airways Center, a perfect spot to get out early.
