Angels trade son of Mike Scioscia for son of Wayne Gretzky

It isn't often that a minor league trade turns a ton of heads in baseball. But it's different when that trade involves the sons of two huge names in L.A. sports history.

On Thursday, the Angels traded Matt Scioscia, son of the Angels' manager Mike, to the Chicago Cubs for Trevor Gretzky, son of the greatest NHL player in history and ex-LA King, Wayne Gretzky.

"We had an opportunity for Gretzky. They had an opportunity for Matt," Angels GM Jerry Dipoto told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

Despite the success of both their fathers, neither player has gone past Class A in their baseball careers.

Matt Scioscia, 25, was picked up by the Angels in the 2011 draft, while 21-year-old Trevor Gretzky was taken by the Cubs in the seventh round.

An Oaks Christian High alum, Gretzky in 41 games last season hit .274 with one home run, a moment his father was able to witness in person.

"Well, you know where you were when I was traded and now you know where you were when Trevor hit his first home run," Wayne Gretzky said during the Sept. 1 game last year.

Matt Scioscia played 41 games with three minor league teams and hit .194 with no home runs.
