104-year-old Flyers fan moved to tears while trying on Stanley Cup ring

Helen Moser, a dedicated Philadelphia Flyers fan, celebrated her 104th birthday recently.

During her birthday party — a Flyers-themed celebration, mind you, where she and attendees sported team jerseys — an extra-special and unannounced guest paid a visit to the festivities.

Moser was visited by Bob “The Hound” Kelly -- a 10-year member of the team and part of the Broad Street Bullies squads that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975.

Kelly presented Moser with a customized Flyers jersey with her name and the No. 104 on the back, something that positively delighted the elderly but spry lady.

But the real thrill came later when Moser tried on Kelly’s Stanley Cup ring, something that had such an effect on her that she was moved to tears.

Kelly said she should try it on just in case the Flyers don’t win one next year, a comment and gesture that prompted Moser to plant a kiss on Kelly’s cheek.

Happy 104th birthday, Ms. Moser. For her sake and as a reward for her nearly 50 years of Flyers fandom, let’s hope her favorite NHL team can make at least one more run at hoisting the Cup in her lifetime.
