New York Giants: Janoris Jenkins Has Found His Niche

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 2:10 a.m. ET

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins has found his niche with the New York Giants. The results have been more glorious than anyone expected. The 2016 offseason marked a change of the guard with the New York Giants. Instead of looking for the big boom player on the offensive side of the ball, the Giants invested heavily in building a defense that could lock opponents down. One of the players whom general manager Jerry Reese invested big money in was cornerback Janoris Jenkins.Reese and the Giants signed Jenkins to a five-year deal worth $62.5 million. It was viewed by most as a massive gamble, but Jenkins has rewarded New York’s faith by playing at the highest level of his career.According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN’s NFL Nation, Jenkins discussed how beneficial it’s been to be able to play within a scheme.“You take a lot of chances. You need a lot of plays,” Jenkins said of playing with the struggling Rams in past years. “Here you can just play within the scheme, play for your teammates and hopefully bring the energy.”Jenkins was no slouch before, but he’s undoubtedly raised his game with Big BlueJenkins is currently the No. 6 ranked cornerback in the NFL on Pro Football Focus. He’s ranked slightly higher than fellow Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and is behind just five players. The only cornerbacks ranked ahead of Jenkins are Aqib Talib, Chris Harris Jr., A.J. Bouye, Casey Hayward, and Malcolm Butler. This past week, Jenkins further established himself as one of the most dominant cornerbacks in the NFL. He held Dez Bryant to one reception for 10 yards. He forced a fumble the one time Bryant secured a reception.Jenkins also made what proved to be a victory-sealing play on the ball when Dak Prescott targeted Bryant on the final drive.Must Read: Vegas oddsmakers are starting to believe in the GiantsBetween the Dallas game and a vast majority of his other appearances, Jenkins has solidified his place as a legitimate star at cornerback.More from GMEN HQVegas Oddsmakers Starting To Believe In New York Giants1 d agoGiants ‘Throw Back’ Defense Keys 10-7 Win Over Cowboys1 d agoNew York Giants: Handing Out Game Balls For Dallas Cowboys Win2d agoStellar Offensive Line Play Never Goes Out Of Style In NFL2d agoNew York Giants Preview: 5 Keys To Defeating The Dallas Cowboys3d agoThis article originally appeared on
